This book presents new application processes in the context of anaerobic digestion (AD), such as phosphorus recovery, microbial fuel cells (MFCs), and seaweed digestion. In addition, it introduces a new technique for the modeling and optimization of AD processes. Chapters 1 and 2 review AD as a technique for converting a range of organic wastes into biogas, while Chapter 3 discusses the recovery of phosphorus from anaerobically digested liquor. Chapters 4 and 5 focus on new techniques for modeling and optimizing AD. Chapters 6 and 7 then describe the state of the art in AD effluent treatment. The books final three chapters focus on more recent developments, including microbial fuel cells (MFCs) (Chapter 8), seaweed production (Chapter 9), and enzyme technologies (Chapter 10).
Introduction.- Anaerobic digestion of screenings for biogas recovery.- Phosphorus recovery from anaerobically digested liquor of screenings.- Multiple-objective optimization in anaerobic digestion system.- Prediction in anaerobic digestion system by means of artificial intelligence.- Treatment of effluent from anaerobic digestion using flocculation.- Treatment of Anaerobic Digestion Effluent using Adsorption.- Microbial fuel cell development from anaerobic digestion system.- Biogas production of seaweed in an anaerobic digester.- Recent review on the application of enzymes in anaerobic digestion.

Nigel Horan was a lecturer in Public Health Engineering at the University of Leeds (UK) for 35 years, during which time he published five academic textbooks and over 120 refereed technical papers. In 1998 he established Aqua Enviro Ltd. and was the company chair until its acquisition by Suez Advanced Solutions UK Limited in 2015. He specializes in the treatment of wastewaters, particularly using the activated sludge process, and in the subsequent recovery of resources from sludge through anaerobic digestilc®
