Black Horses for the King [Paperback]

From Anne McCaffrey, New York Times bestselling author of the Dragonriders of Pern series, comes an original and thrilling look at the legend of King Arthur from the perspective of young man crucial to creating his cavalry.

After his father’s passing, Galwyn is put to work on the high seas. But horses, not ships, are Galwyn’s passion. Luckily, a passenger, Lord Artos—later to rule as the legendary King Arthur—is bound for the great horse fair at Septimania. Lord Artos takes an interest in Galwyn’s way with horses and offers him a position—one that Galwyn accepts at risk to his own life. Galwyn quickly impresses Lord Artos and his men, but no one expects how crucial Galwyn—and his horse skills—will be to their upcoming battles. Beloved Science Fiction Grand Master Anne McCaffrey presents the story of King Author as it has never been told before!

“The wonderful horse lore, the great and charismatic figure of Arthur, and the sympathetic hero all come together to make an engrossing and realistic Arthurian novel.”—The Horn Book
