Andrew Brown has taught medieval history at Massey University since 2010. Before then he was a senior lecturer at Edinburgh University. His main research interests are focused on religion, ceremony and society in late medieval Europe. He is writing and co-editing a collection of essays on medieval urban cultures, and a new, multi-authored history of Bruges, 9001550, to be published by CUP.

John Griffiths is a senior lecturer in history at Massey University. He is the author ofImperial Culture in Antipodean Citiesand several articles in internationally recognised journals, which examine urban and imperial citizenship in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
