English summary: The Samaritans are a Jewish religious community and consider themselves to be direct descendants of the ten tribes of Israel and the 'keepers of the law'. They live in Holon in Israel and in Nablus on the West Bank. The Mandaeans are the last gnostic religion of the world, their rites and customs actually still secret. It is only because many Mandaeans have left their homeland in Iraq to go into exile in Europe, Australia or America that much more has become known about the religious life of this community. In October 2008, the second Mandaean and Samaritan conference was held in honor of Rudolf Macuch at the Institute for Semitic and Arabic Studies at the Free University of Berlin. A highlight was a Mandaean baptism in Lake Wannsee. The corresponding conference proceedings edited by Rainer Voigt publish fifteen contributions on the religion, literature and language of these religious minorities.
