We established an animal shelter and refuge, with full veterinary services, in the Nilgiri Park in India. Our involvement in India, as the following reports demonstrate, met opposition from various quarters, notably by those with a vested interest in maintaining the status quo of animal exploitation and purported exemplary animal welfare and protection, and who did not want to see the false world-image of India as a spiritual culture, where all living beings are regarded as sacred, tarnished in any way by the facts we uncovered. At least we earned the dedicated support of local people who realized the connections between their well-being and the health and welfare of the animals, wild and domesticated.
