The Science of Living was written by Alfred Adler (1870 1937). A famous physician and writer, Adler penned many works on psychiatric subjects. His work impressed even the great Sigmund Freud, and the men met each Wednesday for a discussion group in Freuds home which would eventually go on to become the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society. It was around this time that Adler developed his groundbreaking theory of the inferiority complex; which is detailed in this book. The text contains an author biography, briefly detailing Adlers life, as well as thematic chapters. Issues tackled include inferiority and superiority complexes, dreams and their interpretation, the education of problem children, social problems, love and marriage and problems with sexuality and sex. It is essential reading for anyone interested turn-of-the-century intellectual currents, psychiatric theory and classic literature.
