A haunting exploration of memory, loss, and history through the lens of Irish poetry. The Mother Housedelves into the lives of orphans, exiles, and the marginalized, painting a vivid picture of decay, destruction, and disaster.

Eil?an N? Chuillean?in's poems serve as allegories of our age, reflecting human suffering and survival across many frontiers. This remarkable volume holds a mirror to the past, shedding light upon the present with keen observation. Perfect for readers of Irish literature, poetry enthusiasts, and those interested in historical and social themes.

“Ni Chuilleanain is the Vermeer of contemporary poetry. Her luminous interiors achieve great visual beauty, but should not be mistaken for exercises in escapism. They are sites where history and the individual brush against each other, force fields of action and radiant understanding.” – Aingeal Clare, The Guardian
Eilean Ní Chuilleanainwas Associate Professor of English, Dean of the Faculty of Arts (Letters), and a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin until her retirement in 2011. She co-edits the literary journalCyphers. In 1992, she was awarded the prestigious O’Shaughnessy Poetry Award by The Irish American Cultural Institute. Her most recent volume,The Boys of Bluehill(2015), was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Collection. She has written eight volumes of poetry.
Eilean Ni Chuilleanain's new volume, written just as she finished her term as the Ireland Professor of Poetry (equivalent to the US Poet Laureate), continues to position her as one of the most rewarding Irish poets to read.
