Level Green [Paperback]

“Judith Vollmer writes with sweet agility and moving force. Her poems have an electric energy, and they have compassion, as they stand witness to personal happiness, inquiry, anger— as they bear the knowledge of the political and spiritual cripplings of our time. Her references dazzle as they cross and re-cross the assumed borders—Propertius, Neruda, John Belushi, the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Simone Weil, Fabian. Her voice is strong and tender, beset and loving. These poems are tough and honest celebrations, in the best, thoughtful sense of the word.”—Mary Oliver

“In poem after poem, Judith Vollmer’s Level Green reveals the pains and glories of America’s raging urban reality. Radically real-generous, social, sensual, smart—Level Greenis loaded with humanity, solidarity and love.”—Lawrence Joseph

Judith Vollmer is associate professor of English at the University of Pittsburg at Greensburg. Her poems have been published in various magazines, includingSouthern Poetry ReviewandThe Women’s Review of Books, and in three anthologies.
