The Book Of Honor: Chosen To Teach And To Tell [Paperback]

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation... I Peter 2:9, Holy Bible, New King James Version Inspired by Bible stories and African American women teachers in her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, Veronica Njeri-Imani dreams of becoming an educator and a writer. The Book of Honor: Chosen to Teach and to Tell chronicles her journey from a broken home in a post-desegregation, Southern city to elite colleges, Europe, New York, and beyond. She allows us to see inside the Ivory Tower of academia and details with insight the struggle of a new generation who benefited from gains of the civil rights and women's movements to create a freer America. In sharing the joys and risks of intimate relationships and working in predominantly white organizations as a young, outspoken woman of color, Njeri-Imani invites the reader to question stereotypes and the role of the church in social change. Frank, funny, heart-wrenching, and timely, The Book of Honor gives the testimony of a contemporary Christian voice, a true survivor, on the power of faith.
