It is 200 years after World War III and traveling baseball teams are the main link to the remains of society. But 4 members of one team has enraged the religious fanatics who now rule the earth and the ball players are targeted for execution. Their only hope and that of the world is for them to locate and disable the sacred shrine from which the religious fanatics draw immense powers. The book follows the members of this team as they journey through a post-apocalyptic world accompanied by a disabled genius who has created a scientific marvel which can renew the world. The treacherous trek is told through the perspective of a young adult who is traveling with the baseball team as a scout along with his female companion. They visit a town that had been completely untouched by the nuclear war, and a plain that is filled with thousands of magnetized, dancing skeletons, are chased by hairy, half-naked, inbred maniacs called Bridgers and are helped by a mutant species of humanlike little people who developed after the war. Crisis after crisis is thrust upon the group until reaching the site of the enemys shrine. But this edifice is such a monumental technological achievement that they question their right to destroy it. A dystopian novel of survivors of world war III.
