The Law of War and Peaceoffers a comprehensive introduction to the relationship between law, armed conflict, gender, and peace building. While much of the current scholarship on this area has focused on the UN Security Council’s Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), this two-volume work seeks to move understanding beyond the framework established by the WPS. It does this through an intersectional approach to gender and contemporary conflicts that is mindful of transnational feminist, crip, and queer perspectives, and of the need to decolonize knowledge production.
This first volume focuses on the interplay between international law and gendered experiences of armed conflict. It provides both an introduction to and in-depth analysis of the key debates on the collective security regime, the laws governing conflict, and the use of force, terrorism, and related issues.
