This well-written study is an exercise in transnational history and an important contribution to the emerging field of the history of professional journalism which began in the mid-19th century and continues in the digital era. It is equally recommended for teaching history and journalism classes and for research in media and communication history and it will hopefully spark further research into a thinly explored field.
