Liheng Wang has long been engaged in missile power research and space engineering management. He had presided over the development of China's first sea defence missile solid engine, which was successfully used in anti-ship missile and achieved a significant technological leap. He served as the leader of the Five-star Working Group of the Aerospace Ministry (1990), and achieved the first successful launch of five satellites in one year. He had served as the deputy general commander of China's manned space program (1999-2002).
