In answering, your first instinct might be to list in sequence the significant events you’ve experienced. However, if you define your story in this way, you may not recognize your authorship of it. It might seem that things happen to you without your having much control over them. To claim your role as the storyteller of your life, it is helpful to observe that your story has pat- terns and themes.
