The book is the edition, publication and annotation of two substantialpassages of a <i>Commentary on Genesis</i> that has been ascribed to theeighth-century Armenian theological and commentator, Bishop Stepanos ofSiwnik. One passage has been previously published but never translatedinto English, the second passage is newly-discovered and for it the bookis the <i>editio princeps</i>. Even if the ascription to Stepanos isnot authentic, the work is an early one, and an eighth-century date isnot implausible.
