An intergenerational picture book about love, birds, and new beginnings, perfect for comforting young children facing life's biggest changes, from moving to a new house to welcoming a new sibling.

When Wren was born, Grandpa put a wren box just outside the window of her tiny room, nesting her in the soothing songs of backyard birds. Each spring, Wren and Grandpa watched new life unfold together.

Everything changes when Wrens family moves to the city. The vibrant meadow is replaced by concrete, their home has an extra room waiting for new life, and the only birds in sight are pigeons. Lots of pigeons. But when Wren and her grandpa discover a wild phoebe nest in the porch rafters, Wren realizes that the miracle of new lifeand the warmth of family lovecan find a home anywhere.

Featuring gorgeous illustrations and educational backmatter with birdwatching resources,Wren's Nestbeautifully explores the bond between grandfather and granddaughter, the resilience of urban wildlife, and the anticipation of a new baby sibling.

Heidi Stempledidn’t want to be a writer when she grew up. In fact, after she graduated from college, she became a probation officer in Florida. It wasn’t until she was 28 years old that she gave in and joined the family business, publishing her first short story in a book calledFamous Writers and Their Kids Write Spooky Stories. The famous writer was her mom, author Jane Yolen. Since then, she has published more than thirty-five books and numerous short stories and poems, mostly for children. Heidi lives and writes on a big old farm in Massachusetts that she shares with one very large cat who lives inside, a dozen deer, a family of bears, three coyotes, two bobcats, a gray fox, tons of birds, and some very fat groundhogs who live outside. Once a year she calls owls for the Audubon Christmas Bird Count.Since she was born, Wren has always loved birds, especially the wrenlÓ$
