WILLIAM HUTCHINGS was formerly Senior Lecturer in English Literature and Director of the Centre for Excellence in Enquiry-Based Learning at the University of Manchester, UK. He now lectures regularly to public groups locally and nationally, while continuing to teach Eighteenth-century Literature at the University of Manchester. He has a wealth of teaching experience on English Literature courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and is the editor of Andrew Marvell: Selected Poems (Carcanet: 1988), the author ofThe Poetry of William Cowper (Croom Helm: 1983) and Literary Criticism: A Practical Guide for Students (Edward Arnold: 1989).Covers five centuries and a variety of styles of poetry
