The oldest Panzerregiment of the Wehrmacht has not yet been documented in the military literature. On 112 pages the creation of this unit is covered in an impressive photo review with the first years before the war, the campaign periods in the Sudeten, in Poland, Belgium, France, Russia, Greece, Italy and in Hungary. Included are detailed inventory tables, campaign maps and unit structure organigrams. The photo story also shows the different vehicle markings throughout the war. Almost all of the 300 photos taken from veteran albums are hitherto unpublished. It will be of great interest to the panzer historian but particularly to the modeller who can see lots of detail on the early tanks especially, along with plenty of diorama ideas as we see them on rail flats, bridging and in service in a variety of settings throughout Europe. The Panzer I shots in particular provide excellent reference material for modellers...a good book and a regiment that should never have been overlooked for so long. There is plenty for modellers to appreciate in terms of specific vehicle appearance and potential for diorama scenes. An interesting and informative book. I award it five stars, but feel it would be even more interesting to an Armoured corps soldier rather than I, a mere infantryman. A neat little book which contains more personal photos than professional images, very useful in understanding the life of the regiment. Recommended. An impressive amount of photos are included from the years before WWII and the campaign periods in the Sudeten, in Poland, Belgium, France, Russia, Greece, Italy and in Hungary.
