A gripping memoir of courage and defiance during the Cold War.

Berlin, 1966: Divided by the Berlin Wall, Volker G. Heinz, a West German student, risks everything to help East Germans escape to freedom. Operating from Checkpoint Charlie, he smuggles over 60 citizens in a diplomat's car, facing constant danger from the Stasi.

When the Stasi closes in, Heinz is arrested and endures months of interrogation in a notorious prison. This is the true story of his bravery, sacrifice, and the secret negotiations that led to his exchange for Soviet spies. Perfect for readers interested in Cold War history, espionage, and personal accounts of resilience.

A thrilling and uniquely personal account of some of the most daring escape dramas of Cold War Berlin.
