Karin Stana Kleinschek, born in Maribor, Slovenia, obtained her undergraduate degree from the Technical Faculty of the University of Maribor. Her undergraduate thesis focused on Textile Chemistry. In 1992, she was awarded a masters degree by the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Maribor. In 1996, she obtained a PhD degree from the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the University of Graz, Austria. Her special field of work was Surface characterisation and modification of polymeric materials with special attention on polysaccharides.
