Acute drug poisoning is one of the life threatening conditions. Detection and management of poisoning constitutes a core emergency nursing competency. Nurse's knowledge and practice play important roles in provision of supportive care to decrease morbidity and mortality secondary to poisonings.Poisoning requires a multi-disciplinary team to manage a set of issues ranging from prevention of poisonings in the home to support critically ill poisoned patients in the emergency and intensive care units.
