Laura Downing'sresearch has concentrated on theoretical phonology and morphology of Bantu languages, since her thesis on theTonal Phonology of Jita(published by Lincom Europa in 1996). Recent publications include:Compounding and Tonal Non-transfer in Bantu Languages(Phonology, 2003) andStress,Tone and Focus in Chichewa and Xhosa(Frankfurter Afrikanistische Bl?tter 15, 2003). She is also currently working on a book entitledProsodic Morphology: The Phonology and Morphology of Canonical Forms(Mouton).
