Grainge's dissertation examines recent evidence from maritime archaeology, in the Mediterranean and off the coast of Britain, to reinterpret the events of AD 43. Grainge's principal aims are to identify Roman bridgeheads on the British coastline, to examine the technology available to the Romans for seafaring and to assess the value of Romano-Celtic vessels.
